100 Posts and Counting

For my 100th post, I have decided to share a revised version of a guest post I originally wrote in December for Terri at Rambling Momma

I wanted to share this post for several reasons. First, it is about blogging, which I thought was appropriate for celebrating my 100th blog post (Yay!). I also wanted to repost for my new followers, visitors and those that may have missed it the first time.

This post is about me. And, it's about you. Enjoy!

It's a Big, Small Blogging World
"It's such a small world." Have you ever had anyone say that to you? When you walk into a birthday party and one of the other moms is good friends with your sister. Or, you go to a company event with your spouse, and it turns out he works with someone you went to elementary school with. Or, you join a blog hop, only to find someone who participated in the same ornament swap you did, on an unrelated site.

When I began this adventure in blogging, I really didn't know much about it. I only knew I wanted to write. I thought of blogging as a safe way to "publish" my writing. I didn't have to get anyone's approval, yet my writing would be out there, in cyberspace, for anyone one to see.

What I didn't realize was how many bloggers there are and how many different types of blogs exist. From fashion to decorating. From faith to random ramblings. And, everything in between.

Although there are so many of us out there, we seem to stay connected. Whether it's through blog hops, link ups, the person who designs our blogs, sponsorship, or leaving comments for each other, we make this large space, in which we all belong, seem very personal, very small.

Over the past few months, I have wondered where I fit into the blog-sphere. I am a mother, does that make me a mommy blog? I write about my faith, my family, my son with special needs. I've also enjoyed sharing photos of my home, what I've been wearing, and the highlights of my week or weekend. So, what is my category?

What I've found to be beautiful about blogging is that I really don't have to fit into one category. I don't have to just be a mommy or a Californian or a Christian. I can be all of those. The only limits that are out there are the ones I place on myself. I can swap ornaments AND share my deepest fears. Although, not likely in the same post, I can do both of those and much more, in the space that I've created.

O and M. Same place. 2009.
E and my dad in front of It's a Small World. 2009.
Have you ever been on the It's a Small World ride at Disneyland? When I was a kid, that was my mom's favorite ride - actually it still is - so we had to go there first during every visit to Disneyland. I'm still not sure why she likes the ride so much, but as I was thinking of writing on this topic, I decided to look up the lyrics to the song, which plays over and over again as you ride the small boat through the attraction. Here are the lyrics:

It's a world of laughter, a world or tears
It's a world of hopes, its a world of fear
There's so much that we share
That its time we're aware
It's a small world after all

CHORUS:

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

There is just one moon and one golden sun

And a smile means friendship to everyone.
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small small world

Sounds a lot like the blogging world to me.

Although the sheer number of and variety of blogs in cyberspace still boggles my mind, through these little spaces, where we each pour out our thoughts, fears, faiths, and fashion and decorating advice, we can connect, from all over this small, small world.

Pretty cool, huh?

P.S.
I am now feeling bad for not following through with all the rules of the Liebster Award. See post here. While I will am not officially nominating these ladies, I have decided to share some of my favorite blogs, with followers under 200:

Thanks for the shout out Sybil! I classify myself as a "lifestyle, fashion & design" blog...which to be honest covers pretty much any and all bases I am interested in, haha. And no offense to your mom, but I couldn't stand that ride!!! Haha :)
