The Missing Sock

The past two weeks have been cra-zy! Mainly because, added to our already intense and busy schedule for our family of five, has been my need to bring work home. There have been so many things to get done during the work day, that I have been forced to do report writing at home. Although this happens on a rare night here and there, it has never been such a constant need, over this much time.

Consequently, I have been tired, stressed and distracted. I even wore my slippers out of the house when I went to pick up my oldest at cheer practice. Oops! Fortunately, I had a kind friend who brought A out from practice so I wouldn't have to walk into the gym in my slippers.

I don't like feeling scattered-brained. It makes me even more crazy! So, how do I get my brain out of this fog? I write. I write about the stress, but also write about how to find a way out of it.

This post is my opportunity to change things up. To turn my frown upside down. To shift from thinking about all the things I need to get done, to thinking about the things for which I am grateful, no matter how small.

My kids' school and teachers. O and I visited his future kindergarten class last Friday. It was such a positive experience.

If you have been reading here for awhile, you know how anxious the idea of him starting kindergarten makes me. If you are new, you can check out the section, Letters to Kindergarten. These letters are my way of processing through this next big transition from O's perspective. I hope to be writing another letter about our visit soon.

I feel so fortunate to have built relationships with the kindergarten teachers. To have the ability to take O to visit the classroom, so he can see what it looks like, and what it smells and sounds like. These teachers are excited to have him and are already working with me to make his transition a success.

I love that we are at a school where teachers become friends and where my friends are teachers.

Praise Journal. During times of stress, it's easy to forget about the positive. It gets lost among the hustle and bustle. It's like the sock that is missing from the pair...you know it's there somewhere - I mean, socks don't just disappear - but sometimes it's so hard to find.

Last week, I started my own praise journal, of sorts. Basically, I just started writing down things I wanted to praise God for, things that I was thankful for. Here are a few things from my list:
- my husband having dinner ready when I came home from work
- a little boy, in robot pjs, asking me multiple choice questions related to Thomas the Tank Engine
- starting over, everyday
- the Bible
- sunshine and 70 degree weather
- bubble baths
- starting a new book
- love notes from my kiddos

Look at the big things. Rejoice in the little things. That missing sock is there somewhere. Go find it.

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

I hate it when my washing machine (or dryer) eats my socks :P

Wonderful that O seems to be handing his visit to Kindergarten well! I do not remember my kindergarten class but my mom has a picture of me in a cute little blue dress with red hair ribbons :)

This is such an inspirational post and it's filled with good ideas! A journal to keep up with your praises is a wonderful idea because that's something you can go back and read when you are feeling down. I need to start one of those! And how cute is that love note to mommy? : )
