Being Thankful...Always

Today I am excited to be co-hosting the Faith and Fellowship link-up with Susannah at Simple Moments Stick. The topic for this month is, Thankful in All.
Simple Moments Stick

Let’s discover how to do Thanksgiving in light of God’s word.
Let’s remember that gratitude is not a just a list of thank yous, but heart turning daily toward Christ.
- She Reads Truth, Give Thanks in All Circumstances

So, how do you do it? How do you give thanks to God ALWAYS? It seems easy to be thankful when things are good. When we feel blessed. And, when life just feels right. But, what about when your marriage is falling apart or you lose your job or when your child is diagnosed with cancer or when your friend is killed in a tragic accident? How is it possible to give thanks in those times?

I'm not sure I know the answer to the HOW. But, I do know that it's WHAT we are supposed to do. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says this,

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

I recently finished a study in the book of Esther. Although God is never mentioned in the book, His presence is evident. The way the events of the book unfold can only be the result of the providence of God. A poor, Jewish girl becomes Queen of Persia and saves the entire Jewish nation from death. Seems unlikely. Yet, it happened. And, the victory was God's.

The same can be true in our own lives. Although we may not be able to see God in our circumstances, He is present. He is in it all. And, in the midst of it all, He remains unchanged. It is because of this that we must be thankful...not FOR everything, but IN everything!

I want to give thanks for the promise that He brings peace to chaos,
that redemption awaits, that rest is for those who lie down at His feet like sheep.
- She Reads Truth, Give Thanks in All Circumstances

Because, even when we cannot fully comprehend the happenings of this life, we can still trust in Him and His promises, completely. We can still lay at the feet of Jesus and weep, because He wants us to come to Him. He wants to give us peace. Give thanks to God for that today.

Beautiful post as always, Sybil. It is so true. Much easier to give thanks in good times than in bad. Thanks for inviting me to join your link up.

Beautiful post Sybil. My Bible study group has talked a lot about this lately. Not just giving "Thanks", which is easy to do, but giving "Praise" as well for things He has done, is doing, and will do in the future. Even in the struggles.
