Celebration Saturday

Last week. It was good. Real good.

It's funny to say write that, since it was one of my worst weeks in terms of anxiety in a long time. I struggled daily and nightly to receive peace and truly give everything in my life over to God.

However, my kids were great, phenomenal, high achievers last week. So, to celebrate the various awards, trophies, performances, special invitations and the ability to handle change with ease, we resolved to have a family celebration day on Saturday.

M and I decided we wanted to do something together, as a family. O had been asking to "go somewhere" for awhile now. After the five of us had spent the day together, all three kids giddy with excitement, I realized that it didn't matter to him where we went, but that we went together, as a family. It's something we haven't done since summer ended and school started. It felt good.

We started our day at the zoo. I love our zoo. And, so do our kids. Even though we've been there countless times, we always enjoy it. Some photo highlights from Saturday's trip to the zoo...

After the zoo, we went out to lunch. Then, came home to clean out the garage. Well, M and did most of the cleaning, while I followed O around the block on his bike. While it doesn't sound very exciting, it truly was a family affair.

Saturday evening, M barbecued, which meant I didn't have to cook dinner - yay for me - and we had a picnic/movie night in the living room. We watched Monsters University, which the girls had already seen, but the rest of us hadn't. It was a great family movie. We laughed, a lot.

Our lives are so busy that we often don't take time to spend a whole day together, laughing together, and enjoying each other's company. It felt good.

What did you do to celebrate life this weekend?

LOVE LOVE LOVE this. It is so important to take a day and just spend it with family. I am sure your kids had the best time and will remember this day for years to come. Life gets so busy that sometimes we forget to slow down and enjoy the time with one another.

I always find that being with family allows all my anxiety and worries to go around. So glad you were able to take a day to be together at the zoo. How fun!! I want to do that soon…we've been to the DC zoo…but we have one even closer, so we definitely need to go!!
