In Memory

Several months ago, a good friend of mine lost her husband, BC, tragically. Saturday, December 1st, would have been his 36th birthday.

Although I didn't know him well, and cannot grieve like my friend and her family do, I still grieve for lost opportunities, the chances we may have had to know him, to connect, and to grow in friendship with him. I also grieve for the loss my friend and her family are experiencing.

Shortly after BC died, I heard the song, the Hurt and the Healer, by Mercy Me, on the radio. I didn't just hear it once, it seemed like I heard it every time I got in my car or tuned into the music station on the tv.

The words. They made a huge impression on me. So, I did something I don't think I had ever done before. I sent my friend a link to the song. It touched her. In fact, she used it as part of a video photo collage she and her sister put together to be shown after the funeral.

I don't want to say too much about this song because I want you to listen and develop your connection to it, get your own meaning from it. Every time I hear it, the lyrics speak to me in a different way.

Join me in prayer today and through this weekend for BC's family and friends, for those who knew him well. That they would honor him, not in the same way that they would typically on his birthday, but in a way that stirs memories and celebrates life. Pray that they would find healing in the midst of hurt.

My prayers are being said. I'm so sorry for that family's loss.

I love that song. The words are so powerful and true. You were so kind to step out and pass that song along to your friend.

Thank you for sharing this with your readers. I think it is so important to come together in prayer.

Such a beautiful song, the melody alone is powerful and words bring rushes of emotion and tears. Stories like these break my heart. No matter ones age it is a low place when grieving a loss. I'm glad you reached out to her with this song. One may never know all the ways that a person can receive strength.

I have come to find that God can speak through anyone and anything. Although it has been difficult, I have seen Him working. That part is amazing!

God is amazing! He has giving me wonderful friends and family to help me and my kids through this difficult time in our life. Some how through god grace we will make it...one day at a time. I love and thank all my family and friends who have been by my side these last 4 months. Hugs to everyone! A special thanks to sybil for dedicating her post today on behalf of my family and husband whom we miss very much.

Sybil I love "Mercy Me," and I had not heard this song. So beautiful and touching and reminded me of my step-son who we lost in 2008 tragically. I will definitely be in prayer for your friend and family this weekend. Beautiful post and I believe the Holy Spirit allowed you to keep hearing this song to use it as a ministry for healing right here on your blog. I look forward to reading your posts. Following from Friendly Friday blog hop.

Know that your are loved. And, you are being prayed for by so many. Jesus said, "For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:20 NLT). He is among us and He is with you! XO

As I prepared to sing this, I also prepared what to say to the congregation. As I was standing in the hallway, immediately prior to singing, God said, "Don't say anything."

I agree with you. This song speaks to each individual in different ways. God didn't want me to ruin it. He obviously put a lot of thought into this song.
